About This Place

Nestled in the heart of Westminster’s vibrant Little Saigon, Hiền Thanh Restaurant stands as a cherished gem for lovers of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. This intimate eatery offers a genuine taste of Vietnam, bringing the rich flavors and comforting aromas of home-cooked meals to Southern California. From the moment you step inside, you sense the warm, family-style atmosphere that makes every visit feel like a reunion around the dinner table.

The menu at Hiền Thanh is a treasure trove of Vietnamese classics and specialty dishes crafted with fresh, wholesome ingredients. One of their standout delights is the Canh Chua Cá Bông Lau (Vietnamese sour fish soup), a tangy, fragrant broth that perfectly balances sour tamarind with tender fish, uplifting the senses and beckoning another spoonful. Equally indulgent is their Rau Muống Xào Tỏi — stir-fried water spinach with garlic — a simple yet flavorful vegetable dish that bursts with earthy freshness and a garlicky punch.

For noodle lovers, the restaurant’s array of Phở options offers something truly special, including the signature Phở Đặc Biệt and Phở Bò Filet Mignon. Each bowl combines silky, delicate rice noodles with richly spiced, slow-simmered beef broth, topped with perfectly cooked filet mignon or tender beef slices. The subtle depth of the broth, paired with fresh herbs and bean sprouts, creates a harmony of textures and tastes that comfort the soul.

Signature dishes like Bún Chả Giò Thịt Nướng and the crispy, fragrant Cá Lù Đù Chiên Giòn (crispy fried fish) highlight Hiền Thanh’s mastery of blending bold flavors with traditional Vietnamese cooking techniques. Patrons also rave about the Thịt Kho (braised pork) and vibrant Gỏi Bò Filet (beef salad), each bite delivering the kind of profound, satisfying flavor that makes you nostalgic for family meals back home.

Reviewers consistently praise Hiền Thanh for its comforting portions and authentic taste. Mike “Mike” Winn calls it “the best cơm phần địa điểm in Little Saigon,” emphasizing the soul-soothing catfish sour soup and stir-fried morning glory as standouts. Another satisfied customer, Apple B, commends the restaurant’s “seriously good taste” and “great prices,” a testament to the balanced value and quality on offer.

While the restaurant’s cozy size means it can fill up fast, especially for family dinners, this only adds to its charm and the sense of community among diners. Thanh Mai shares a practical tip — arrive early or prepare to place your order ahead — underscoring how beloved and bustling this spot has become for those craving hearty, honest Vietnamese food.

Whether you’re drawn by the fragrant pho broth, the crispy spring rolls, or the homey braised pork, Hiền Thanh Restaurant invites you to experience a genuine slice of Vietnam in every dish. It’s more than a meal — it’s a celebration of tradition, comfort, and connection that stays with you long after the last bite.

The best com phan dia dinh in Little Saigon. They have been here for years now and survived through covid. I always go for catfish sour soup, catfish stewed, and stirring fried morning glory. This is comfort food for vietnamese people.

Very good family style comfort foods, compliments to whoever the chef is at this eatery, albeit the service could use some improvement.

They have home-style cuisine. If you crave Vietnamese food, they serve good dishes. I especially like the braised claypot fish.

Great little restaurant at the heart of Little Saigon. They specialize in family style food where you share 2-3 items + rice. Always good, consistent quality. This is one of our favorite restaurants.

My grandpa put me on to this place — turns out my parents put him on. Full circle. We always come here for his favorite: Cơm Phần Gia Đình (Family Dinner). You get to choose your dishes — soup, main, appetizer, etc. The portions are sized by how many people you’re feeding. We always get the meal for two even though there are three of us (me and my grandparents), but it’s perfect since my grandma doesn’t eat much. Our usual lineup: Rau muống xào tỏi (water spinach with garlic) — extra garlic always. Worth the upcharge. Canh chua — classic, solid. Cá kho tộ (caramelized braised catfish) — this is why we come back. It’s done so well here, better than most other spots. Rich, flavorful, melt-in-your-mouth kind of good. They also give you a side of white rice, of course. Service is quick, staff speaks both English and Vietnamese, and it seems like everyone in the restaurant is always ordering the same set. It’s just one of those comforting, homestyle Vietnamese spots — nothing fancy, but clean (no sticky floors!) and consistent. Bonus: It’s just a hop, skip, and a jump away from TK.
